Carol Bower

Carol Ann Bower (born June 9, 1956 in Riverside , California ) is a former American rower who was 1984 Olympic champion with the eighth .

The 1.72 m tall Carol Bower from the New Haven Rowing Club won the bronze medal behind the aft from the Soviet Union and the GDR at the 1979 World Championships with the US eight . Carol Bower, Carol Brown , Jeanne Flanagan and Patricia Spratlin from the 1979 eighth also sat two years later in the boat that won the silver medal behind the Soviet eighth at the 1981 World Championships . In 1982, Bower switched to the four-man with tax woman and won the silver medal behind the Soviet four-man together with Kathryn Keeler , Harriet Metcalf , Barbara Kirch and tax woman Valerie McClain-Ward . In 1983, Bower returned to eighth, winning another silver medal behind the Soviet eighth with Kristen Thorsness , Patricia Spratlin, Shyril O'Steen , Carolyn Graves , Carol Bower, Kristine Norelius , Janet Harville , Harriet Metcalf and Valerie McClain-Ward.

At the Olympic Games in 1984 , the Soviet women world champions were absent, as were the world championship thirds from the GDR because of the Olympic boycott . With Jeanne Flanagan, Kathryn Keeler and helmsman Betsy Beard for Spratlin, Harville and McClain-Ward, the US boat won by one second over the Romanians.
