Tosya is a district ( Turkish İlçe ) and the associated district town in the south of the Turkish province of Kastamonu in northern Anatolia . Tosya is located about 50 km south-southeast of the provincial town of Kastamonu on the southern slope of the Ilgaz Dağları mountain range .

The district borders on the central district ( Merkez ) Kastamonu in the north and northwest, the district Taşköprü in the northeast, the province Çorum in the east and southeast and on the province Çankırı in the southwest and west. In addition to the district town, the district consists of 54 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 210 residents. The population ranges from 809 ( Suluca ) to 36 ( Küçükkızılca ). The population density of the district is 30.9, slightly above the provincial average (29.3 inh. Per km²).

The Devrez Çayı River flows through the district in an easterly direction.

The Europastraße 80 (trunk road D100 ) between Gerede and Merzifon runs in a west-east direction through the district and past the town of Tosya.
