Ihsangazi is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Kastamonu in northern Anatolia . Ihsangazi is located about 40 km southwest of the provincial town of Kastamonu and was raised to Belediye (municipality) in 1968 .
The district is located in the south of the province and borders the Araç district in the west, the central district ( Merkez ) in the east, and the Ilgaz district ( Çankırı province ) in the south. It was formed in 1987 from the south-western part of the central district (Merkez) Kastamonu. Until then it was a separate Bucak and counted 7,071 inhabitants in the last census before the change of area (1985), of which 3,279 were in the main town.
In 2018 the district consisted of the district town (53% of the district's population) and 23 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 112 residents. The spectrum of the population ranges from 316 ( Haydarlar ) to 36 ( Bedirgeriş ). The population density is low (12) and does not reach half of the provincial average (of 29.3 inhabitants per km²).
The Ilgaz Çayi River , the upper reaches of the Araç Çayi , rises in the south of the district on the northern slope of the Ilgaz Daglari mountain range and flows north through the district and the district town before turning west.
