Doğanyurt is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Kastamonu in northern Anatolia . The city of Doganyurt is located 25 km west of Inebolu on the Black Sea coast . The distance to the provincial capital Kastamonu is about 73 km. The city was previously called Hoşalay and has a pier .

The county is the northernmost county in the province and borders on Cide County in the west, Şenpazar County in the south-west, Azdavay County in the south, Küre County in the south-east and İnebolu County in the east.

It stretches along the coast and a bit into the mountains of the Küre Dağları and was formed in 1990 from the western part of the İnebolu district. Until then Doğanyurt was a Bucak in this district and counted 13,365 inhabitants in the last census before the change of area (1985),

In 2018, the district consists of the district town and 25 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 189 residents. The scale of the population ranges from 546 ( Düzağaç ) to 59 ( Şirin ).

The D010 trunk road runs parallel to the coast from Sinop to Bartin through the entire district.
