Malcolm Le Grice
Malcolm Le Grice (born May 15, 1940 in Plymouth , United Kingdom ) is a British avant-garde film artist and film theorist .
life and work
Malcolm Le Grice studied at Plymouth College of Art from 1957 to 1961 and at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1961 to 1964 . Since 1997 he has been directing the British Artist's Film and Video Study Collection with David Curtis at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Le Grice is Professor Emeritus at the University of the Arts London .
Le Grice was a member of the Drury Lane Arts Lab from 1971 and founded Filmaktion with William Raban , Annabel Nicolson, Gill Eatherley, Mike Dunford and David Crosswaite. Organized multimedia shows were also organized by Filmaktion .
He co-founded the London Film-Makers' Co-op in 1967 .
Movies
Le Grice moved from painting to film in the 1960s. His first Super-8 film is "China Tea (1965)". His first computer manipulated film is "Your Lips 1 (1970)". With the experimental short film "After Lumière - L'Arroseur arrosé" he created a modern remake of The Watered Gardener in 1974 . Le Grice has been making digital art public since the 1980s . The multi-projections and video installations , "The Cyclops Cycle" and "Treatise" are examples of this. Several longer films "Finnegans Chin", "Sketches for a Sensual Philosophy" and "Chronos Fragmented" have been shown on British television.
