William Raban

William Raban (* 1948 in Fakenham , Norfolk ) is a British director of experimental films .

life and work

William Raban was born in England in 1948 . His first films were made while studying at Saint Martin's School of Art , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1971 . He received his master's degree from the University of Reading in 1974 . From 1972 to 1976 William Raban directed the London Film-Makers 'Co-op and from 1977 to 1981 he edited Filmmakers' Europe magazine. Raban was a professor at Saint Martin's School of Art from 1976 to 1989 before moving to the University of the Arts London . He is a member of the editorial board of the film magazine Vertigo and a member of the Royal Society of Arts .

Since the late 1960s, William Raban has made over fifty films, many of which are based on London and the Thames . In 1977 he participated in documenta 6 in Kassel .

Together with Isabelle Inghillieri, Nina Danino and Tina Keane, Raban is active in the field of video painting .
