traffic
Fakenham had two train stations until the late 1950s. Fakenham West Station was originally part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway and closed in 1959. Now the station serves as a warehouse for building materials. Only seven yards of the platform have survived. Fakenham East was a station on the Great Eastern Railway until the early 1920s . After various other railway companies had operated the station, it was closed to passenger traffic in the 1960s, although freight trains ran on the line until the 1980s. Various expansion plans provide for new railway lines through Fakenham, but a new station would then have to be built.
