Bucak (Turkish administrative division)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Bucak is the smallest administrative territorial unit a part of the Central Administration of the Republic of Turkey .

The largest administrative units are provinces ( Turkish İl ). These are divided into districts ( İlçe or Kaymakamlık ). The counties mostly consist of Bucaks and a Bucak consists of villages and small towns ( kasaba ). Not all counties are divided into Bucaks.

According to the central provincial administration, Bucaks no longer have any function in terms of personnel and organization. In recent years, numerous Bucaks have been raised to the rank of a district, which has steadily decreased their number. Officially, there were still 634 Bucaks in 2010.

The administrative term nahiye from the time of the Ottoman Empire is used as a synonym today .

Legal regulation

The provincial administrative law regulates the establishment, restructuring, naming, renaming, cancellation and division of a Bucak. A Bucak is managed by a director ( bucak müdürü ). This is subordinate to the Kaymakam , who in turn has the provincial governor ( Vali ) over him. The Müdür is the highest official in a Bucak and is responsible for general administration and the publication and implementation of legislation. He is also responsible for public safety in Bucak. Police and gendarmerie are under his command. The Müdür is appointed by the provincial governor.
