Pınarbaşı is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the northwest of the Turkish province of Kastamonu in northern Anatolia . The city of Pınarbaşı is about 60 km northwest of the provincial capital Kastamonu at an altitude of 742 m in the Küre Dağları mountain range . The Black Sea coast is approx. 35 km away. Pınarbaşı was raised to the municipality ( Belediye ) in 1989 .

With its emerald green forests, unique gorges and caves, wooden houses, charming villages and traditional lifestyle, the region is located in the southern part of the Küre Mountains in northern Anatolia.
The terrain is hilly and 63% forested. Conifers grow on the heights. The valleys between the mountains are small plateaus and the valley floor of the Zara Çayı (Zara Bach) is an economic activity and settlement area.
The highest mountains are Kurtgirmez Dağı (1,338 m), Büyük Dağı (1,151 m) and Gavurharman Dağı (1,136 m.). The main river is the Zara Çayıdır. It flows in a south-north direction and flows into the Devrekani Çayı . This flows through the north of the district in a north-westerly direction.
The Küre Dağları National Park ( Küre Dağları Milli Parkı ) is located seven km northeast of Pınarbaşı . In this national park lies the Valla Canoyn ( Valla Kanyonu ). It is twelve kilometers long and, at 800 meters deep, the second deepest in the world.
district
The district is bordered by the districts of Cide in the north, Azdavay in the north-east and north, Daday in the south and Eflani district ( Karabük province ) in the southwest and Ulus district ( Bartin province ). It was formed in 1987 from the western part of Azdavay County. Until then, Pınarbaşı was its own Bucak and had a population of 9,479 in the last census before the change of area (1985), 911 being the main town ( Bucak Merkezi ).
At the end of 2018, the district consisted of the district town and 27 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 140 residents. The scale of the population ranges from 279 ( Yamanlar ) to 23 ( Günberi ). With a population density of 11 inhabitants, it ranks third from bottom of all districts - with a provincial average of 29.3.

There is a transitional climate between sea and land. Summers are short and hot, winters long and cold.
