Thomas Docherty

Thomas Docherty (born January 28, 1975 in Whitehaven ) is a British Labor Party politician .

Life

Docherty worked for Network Rail and British Nuclear Fuels . He is chairman of a local community association and also studied history at the Open University . He is married and has one son.

Political career

Docherty chairs the West Fife Labor Group. Within the party, he acted as the advisor to MP Scott Barrie . For the first time, Docherty stood for the Labor Party in the 2001 general election in the North Tayside constituency . However, he only received the third highest number of votes behind the SNP candidate Peter Wishart and the conservative Murdo Fraser .

In the 2010 general election , Docherty ran in the constituency of Dunfermline and West Fife , the mandate of which Liberal Democrat Willie Rennie had held since 2006. On election day, Docherty prevailed against Rennie and four other opponents and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . In the Labor Party's shadow cabinet , Docherty held a junior ministerial position in 2013 for the environment, food and rural affairs. After the SNP gained massive votes in the following general election in 2015 , he left the House of Commons in 2015. The SNP candidate Douglas Chapman won the mandate .
