World Rowing Championships 1981

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1981 World Rowing Championships were held on the Oberschleißheim regatta course in Munich , Germany under the rules of the World Rowing Association (FISA). Rowing world champions were determined in 18 boat classes . The finals took place on September 5 and 6, 1981.

The German Peter-Michael Kolbe caused a sensation in the men's one by using a boat with roller outriggers and was able to confidently become world champion. As early as the 1982 World Rowing Championships , roll boom single units were widely used because they offered biomechanical advantages. The World Rowing Association banned the roller boom concept after the 1983 season for reasons of equal opportunities.

Results

The medal winners from the A finals are listed here. These were manned by six boats, which had to qualify for the finals through preliminary runs, hope runs and semi-finals. The length of the course was 2000 meters in all men's runs and 1000 meters in all women's runs.
