World Rowing Championships 1984

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1984 World Rowing Championships were held on the regatta course on the Île Notre-Dame in Montreal , Canada under the rules of the World Rowing Federation (FISA). The 14 Olympic boat classes were not deployed because of the Olympic rowing regatta in Los Angeles in 1984 , so that the rowing world champions were only determined in four non-Olympic lightweight boat classes for men . The finals took place on August 26, 1984.

Lightweight women were able to compete in the World Championship regatta for the first time. The four races in single , double scull , quad without helmsman and eighth were, however, referred to by the World Rowing Association as a "demonstration competition"; the winners were not world champions. With the exception of the women's lightweight eighth, these classes were included in the official World Championship program from the 1985 World Rowing Championships .

Another innovation concerned the length of the route in the women's competitions. Up to and including the 1983 World Rowing Championships , women rowed over 1000 meters, while the normal distance for men was 2000 meters. Since the World Championships in 1984, women have also been rowing over the “Olympic distance” of 2000 meters.

Results

The medal winners from the A finals are listed here. These were manned by six boats, which had to qualify for the finals through preliminary runs, hope runs and semi-finals. The length of the course was 2000 meters in all races.
