Regatta course
A regatta course is a competition course for canoeing and rowing , on which regattas take place, among other things .
properties
Artificial regatta courses (also called regatta track ) are usually around 2300 m (with start and finish area) long and around 150 m wide. This size is due to the length of the competition course of 2000 m required for rowing competitions and the minimum width of approx. 90 m required for six lanes so far and from 2011 eight lanes of 12.5 to 15 m and is specified by the World Rowing Association FISA . In canoeing, there are usually nine lanes with a minimum width of 9 m each. In order to be able to combine canoeing and rowing on one route, the rowing lanes are typically 13.5 m wide, so that six rowing lanes can be converted into nine canoe lanes. The individual tracks are usually marked with buoy chains ( Albano system ), every 250 m there is a distance indication. To improve the starting conditions are starting systems are used. In rowing, a minimum depth of 3 meters is required for international regattas. In many local regattas this is not necessarily the case.
Since the usual international routes in canoe racing and dragon boats are a maximum of 1000 m, only the area closer to the target is used for competitions, the rest for warm-up exercises for athletes.
Motorboat races are also held on regatta courses ; for a circular course, the distance between the turning buoys is 600 to 1000 m, depending on the class.
Since the construction costs for artificial regatta courses can quickly reach tens of millions, regatta courses are one of the larger cost factors when they have to be built for the Olympic Games . They are therefore always designed in such a way that they are suitable for both rowing and canoeing.
