Račice (German Ratschitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located eight kilometers northeast of Roudnice nad Labem in the Elbe Valley and belongs to the Okres Litoměřice . The village is internationally known for the Račice rowing canal .

The village is located on the left bank of the Elbe at the beginning of the Elbe bend upstream from Roudnice nad Labem. The railway line between Roudnice nad Labem and Mělník runs north of the village, and the nearest railway station, called Hněvice, is located southeast of Račice. To the south-west lies the Račice rowing channel built from a sand pit.

Neighboring towns are Velešice in the north, Čakovice in the north-east, Štětí in the south-east, Hněvice and Benzínov in the south, Předonín in the south-west, Záluží in the west and Kochovice in the north-west.

history

Račice was first mentioned in 1295 when Wenceslaus II left the village to the Prague bishop Tobias von Bechin . In 1577 Wilhelm von Rosenberg acquired Račice, later it was owned by the Lobkowitz family .

In 1960 Račice was incorporated into Štětí and has been independent again since 1989. In the 1980s, a sand pit in the Elbe loop was expanded into the Račice rowing channel , where the Junior World Rowing Championships were held for the first time in 1986 . In 1993 Račice hosted the World Rowing Championships and the Men's World Championships in canoeing. The sailing world championships followed in 1999 and the FISA World Masters Regatta in 2002 . The Račice sports center hosted the U23 rowing world championships in 2009 and the dragon boat world championships from August 26th to 30th and the junior world championships the following year.
