Libochovany (German: Libochowan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic , located in the Elbe Valley near Porta Bohemica in the Bohemian Central Mountains .
history
Libochovany is first mentioned in 1170. Instead of the former castle from the 13th century, the renaissance castle that still exists today was built at the end of the 16th century . The neo-Gothic St. Mary's Church dates from the years 1893 to 1895.
Already at the beginning of the 20th century there was a basalt quarry on the nearby Deblík ( Deblikberg ) . In the last few decades the mining of the rock has also been extended to the nearby Trabice ( Trabitze ). In the meantime, large parts of both mountains have already been dismantled. The delivery rate is currently up to 600,000 t per year.
The former Austrian Northwest Railway , at which Libochovany has a stop, has been running through Libochovany since 1874 . The Elbe ferry to neighboring Prackovice nad Labem ( Praskowitz ) no longer exists.
Community structure
The municipality Libochovany consists of the districts Libochovany ( Libochowan ) and Řepnice ( Repnitz ), which also form cadastral districts.
