The Okres Litoměřice (German district Leitmeritz ) was a regional authority in Ústecký kraj in the Czech Republic . The Okresy were roughly comparable to the rural districts in Germany and were dissolved as an administrative level on December 31, 2002 . The district was located in northern Bohemia and covered large parts of the Central Bohemian Uplands .
In Okres Litoměřice 119,655 people (as of January 1, 2019) live in 105 municipalities (Obec) with 271 districts (část obcí).
The area of the Okres Litoměřice was settled 200,000 years ago. Since the 6th century it became the home of the Slavic tribes around the legendary forefather Čech (Bohemian). The former district is located in the southeastern part of the Ústecký kraj (Czech Republic), at the confluence of the Elbe and Eger rivers. With 1032 km² it was the largest district in the district.
Three quarters of the area can be used for agriculture. The most important branch is the chemical industry, followed by the paper, building materials and food industries. Agriculture specializes in fruit and vegetable growing, hops and viticulture. The proportion of people employed in agriculture is the highest in the district. The unemployment rate is 12%.
New technologies and restructuring in large-scale industry and large-scale agriculture eased the burden on the environment.
