Location of the Okres Louny

The Okres Louny (translated as Laun district ) was a regional authority in the Ústecký kraj (Aussig region) in the Czech Republic . The Okresy were comparable in size to the rural districts in Germany. With the administrative reform on January 1, 2000, the Okres largely lost their administrative tasks, only to lose them completely in 2003 with the dissolution of the offices ( okresný úrad ).

The district is located in northern Bohemia , includes the Saaz Basin (Žatecká pánev), the Goldbachland (Podbořansko) and extends in the east to the Bohemian Central Uplands .

In Okres Louny, 86,486 people (as of January 1, 2019) live in an area of 1,118 km² in 70 communities (Obec) with 221 districts (část obcí). The population density is the lowest in the district.

In recent years there has been a major upheaval in the country's economy. Hop growing only retained its priority in agriculture. Grains, oil plants and cattle are still grown. Around a quarter of the population is employed in industry, primarily in the food, mechanical engineering, power generation and construction sectors. 14,000 companies are registered, of which around 1,200 are self-employed farmers.
