history

Dolní Ročov

In the first half of the 14th century there was a fortress and court of the lords of Kolowrat in the Klášterský potok valley . In 1373 Albrecht von Kolowrat received the approval of Charles IV for the foundation of the Augustinian hermit monastery "Vallis beatae Virginis" next to his festivals. The papal confirmation by Gregory XI. took place in 1374. When it was founded, the monastery was granted brewing rights and had its own hop garden. During the Hussite Wars , the monastery was set on fire in 1424. It continued to exist but became impoverished and the buildings deteriorated. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the lords of Kolowrat supported the monastery several times and had it ready.

The village Področow, which was always assigned to Ober Rotschow, was created by subdividing the manorial court. With the cloister courtyard, the monastery formed its own Kastastral district, which until the middle of the 19th century belonged to the Lishtian estate in the Saaz district.

Under the names Področov , Področow , Dolejší Ročov and Unter Rotschow , the monastery district and the village were united from 1850 to form a political municipality in the Louny district . At the beginning of the 20th century, the merger with the market town of Horní Ročov took place to form a municipality that was given the name Ročov.

In 1950 the monastery was dissolved by the communists.

Horní Ročov

In 1352 Charles IV approved the creation of a town by Albrecht von Kolowrat on the Koppe over his festivals. The small town, laid out around a large rectangular market square with a regular floor plan, was first called Dráčov , Vysoká or Alta civitas , later as Ober Rotschow , and was granted market rights soon after it was founded. Hops have been grown since the 14th century . In 1523 the lords of Lobkowicz became owners of Ober Rotschow through the purchase of the Pravda estate. After the manorial court was parceled out, the village of Unter Rotschow, which was connected to Ober Rotschow, was created north of the monastery. In 1802 the princes von Schwarzenberg acquired the goods. In 1828 the market had 310 inhabitants. Up until the middle of the 19th century, Ober Rotschow was part of the Saaz district, subject to the rule of Zittolieb .

After the abolition of patrimonial Hořejší Ročov / Ober Rotschow formed from 1850 a market town in the political district of Louny . At that time, hop growing was considerably expanded and Ober Rotschow developed into the district's hop growing center. In 1878 the old church from the 14th century was demolished and a new neo-Gothic building was erected. Until the construction of the new school house in 1896, Ober Rotschow was schooled after Unter Rotschow.

At the beginning of the 20th century the merger with Dolní Ročov took place to form a municipality that was named Ročov.

Ročov

In 1921 Městys had 889 inhabitants and in 1950 there were 660. In 1961 Úlovice and Břínkov were incorporated. Between 1981 and 1991 Brodec was also part of Ročov. In 1990 there were 463 people in the community. On October 10, 2006 the place was again granted the status of a Městys. Ročov is the seat of the Podlesí Agricultural Cooperative. The association of farmers from seven villages is the largest hop grower in the Czech Republic.
