Chlumčany (German Klumtschan , also Kluntschan , Chlumtschan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located four kilometers southeast of the city center of Louny and belongs to the Okres Louny .
geography
Chlumčany is located at the northern foot of the Džbán Mountains by the Smolnický stream. To the north rise the Malý Chlum (283 m) and the Blšanský Chlum (273 m). Chlumčany is on the Praha – Most railway line , which loops around the village in the south, west and north. The state road I / 7 from Louny to Slaný touches the town to the west .
Neighboring towns are Blšany u Loun in the north, Veltěže in the northeast, Vlčí in the east, Toužetín in the southeast, Smolnice in the south, Brloh in the southwest, Cítoliby in the west and Louny in the northwest.
history
The first written mention of the place took place in 1316, when Vladike Viktor von Chlumčany appeared as a witness at the regional court. Since 1354 the Church of St. Prove Kliment. The village had been divided into several parts since the Middle Ages, which belonged to different lords and later came under the rule of Cítoliby . Wine has been grown on the southern slope of Malý Chlum since the 14th century. Possibly there was a festival in Chlumčany, but there is no reliable evidence for it. Since the middle of the 18th century, the population has increased continuously. In 1770 the old church was demolished and a year later a new baroque building was started. In 1787 the village consisted of 27 houses. In 1797 Jakob Wimmer von Wimmersberg acquired the rule of Cítoliby. In 1802 the Princely House of Schwarzenberg bought the goods. Viticulture, which had come to a standstill, was then resumed. Due to poor yields, the vineyard was given up a few years later and the tavern became a tavern.
After the abolition of patrimonial Chlumčany / Chlumczan formed a political municipality in the Louny district from 1850 . In 1858 the Prince of Schwarzenberg founded a sugar factory. In 1872 the railway from Chlumčany to Most was inaugurated. The following year the line via Slaný to Prague was completed. Until the land reform of 1924, the goods belonged to the dominion of the princes of Schwarzenberg. Since 1961 Vlčí has been part of Chlumčany.
Today Chlumčany is the only place in Okres Louny where wine is grown. There is a song house wine cellar in Chlumčany .
The station keeper's house at the old Krejcárka level crossing on Prager Strasse is the setting for the novel Hlídač č , published in 1926 . 47 by Josef Kopta .
Community structure
The municipality of Chlumčany consists of the districts Chlumčany ( Klumtschan ) and Vlčí ( Wltsch , 1939–45 Wolfsried ), which also form cadastral districts.
