Želkovice ( German Schelkowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . She belongs to the Okres Louny .
geography
The place is located nine kilometers west of Třebenice in the southwest of the Bohemian Central Uplands . It is 335 m above sea level. M. in a hilly landscape and is completely surrounded by orchards. State road 15 runs through Želkovice. Neighboring towns are Šepetely in the northeast, Třebívlice in the southeast, Židovice in the southwest, Lahovice in the west and Řisuty in the northwest.
history
Želkovice was first mentioned in a document in 1237. The oldest building in the village, a Romanesque rotunda , also dates from this period .
In 1821, Emperor Franz II issued a patent which obliged the Schelkowitz farmers to breed fine horses for the new post office in Liebshausen . Between 1852 and 1853 a neo-Romanesque nave was added, which gave the St. Peter and Paul Church its current form.
Most of the residents of the village are traditionally fruit growers. Želkovice has been an independent municipality since 1993; previously the village was incorporated into Libčeves . The most valuable architectural monument of the place, the church with rotunda, is in a poor structural condition.
