Petersburg, whose namesake was Peter von Janovic, was first mentioned in a document in 1360. The manor belonged to the possessions of the castles Petersburg (Petršpurk) and Springenberg (Šprymberk). In the course of time, after the Janovic family, the Guttensteiners and the Kolowrat follow Liebstein. In 1620 the Counts of Czernin von und zu Chudenitz acquired the place, who stayed here until 1945.

The village was parish after Steben until 1808 . Since 1650 there was a palace chapel in Petersburg, which was elevated to a branch church in 1785. Since that time the villages Tschentschitz, Wilenz, Klumtschan and Neumühle belonged to the St. Petersburg district. In 1786 the now abandoned settlement Knieschehay (Kněžský háj) was added. The castle chapel was elevated to a parish church in 1808.

After the abolition of patrimonial in 1848, Petersburg received its independence. In 1895 the Petersburg estate (Petršpurk) was merged with the Klumchan (Chlumčany) community to form the Petersburg or Petrohrad community.

After the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918 the large estates of the House of Cernin von Chudenitz were nationalized.

After the Munich agreement was made in 1938 the annexation to the German Reich as part of the district Podersam , Region of Eger , in the Reich District of Sudetenland . After the Second World War, Petrohrad came back to re-established Czechoslovakia.

In the course of the municipal reform of 1960, the merger with Bílenec and Černčice took place. In 1981 Petrohrad and its districts were incorporated into Kryry and in 1990 got its independence back.
