The place is located in the headwaters of the Žerotínský potok on the edge of the forest area Týnecký les. State road 7 from Louny to Slaný passes north of the village . The remains of Žerotín Castle are on the western edge of the village.

Neighboring towns are Panenský Týnec in the north, Úherce in the northeast, Pacov and Klobuky in the east, Hořešovičky in the southeast, Zichovec and Samotín in the south, Hvížďalka, Nová Ves and Hříškov in the west and Bedřichovice and Sulec in the northwest.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1250 under the name Žirotín . The owner was Ratiboř von Žerotín , who was succeeded by his son Jan. During the reign of his son Habart, who also raised Panenský Týnec to the market and is mentioned in the Dalimil Chronicle, the castle was built before 1290.

The marriage of Habart von Žerotín with Scholastika von Sternberg , a daughter of Zdeslav von Sternbergs, was badly off. Scholastica was blood related to Harbart in the fourth degree, and the marriage was long childless. It was not until 1290 that Nicholas IV received a subsequent recognition , which at the same time also saved the Žerotín people from losing their rule.

After the sterility of Scholastica had been cured by Agnes of Bohemia , Habart fulfilled his promise in 1280 and founded the monastery of the Poor Clares in Panenský Týnec with his sons Jaroslav and Plichta . Jaroslav and Plichta von Žerotín fought as Teutonic Knights against the Prussians and Knight Plichta also went to the battle of Mühldorf at the side of Johann von Böhmen . The lords of Žerotín stood firmly on the imperial side during the Hussite Wars and fought many battles with the rebels in Louny.

The place name Žerotín has been used since the 14th century, which finally replaced the original name Žirotín at the end of the 16th century .

The Žerotín people sat in the castle until 1462, but Jan Zajíc von Hasenburg had held half of the rule since the Hussite Wars . In the 16th and 17th centuries, the owners changed often. The last lord of the castle was Zdeněk Vratislav z Mitrovic , who had acquired the rule in 1623. During the Thirty Years' War the Swedes invaded in 1639 and destroyed the castle and monastery in Jungfernteinitz . The Žerotín Castle was not rebuilt and fell into desolation.

In 1678 Gundakar von Dietrichstein bought the Žerotín estate from Ferdinand Popel von Lobkowitz , who had acquired it five years earlier. Dietrichstein joined Žerotín to the rule Budyně nad Ohří . In the 18th and 19th centuries, large parts of the castle ruins were demolished and used as building material. The interior of the castle was used as a stately plum loaf from 1857.
