Vyškov (German Wischau ) is a Czech city in Jihomoravský kraj . It lies at the foot of the Drahaner Bergland on the Haná River .
history
Vyškov was mentioned for the first time in 1141, from then until the 18th century it was owned by the Olomouc bishopric . From the 13th century it was the center of a German-speaking island , the inhabitants of which were gradually assimilated from the end of the 19th century and almost completely expelled from 1945 onwards.
After the occupation by French troops in the third coalition war , the battle of Wischau took place on November 25, 1805 .
In the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia the city after Nazi plans should the center of a German island around the training area Wischau form, and so 33 villages, a total of five stages in 1941-1945 evacuated.
Until 2004 the city was the seat of the University of the Army in Vyškov (Vysoká vojenská škola pozemního vojska ve Vyškově) . Today the Institute for Protection against Weapons of Mass Destruction (Ústav ochrany proti zbraním hromadného ničení) of the successor university - the University of Defense is located here .
