history

Church of the Archangel Michael

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1170 in connection with the Lords of Schwabenitz . The seat of the family was the fortress Schwabenitz, which was probably located on the northeastern edge of the village on the hill Hradisko. In 1309, Vítek von Schwabenitz granted the Augustinian monastery on the Zderaz near Prague church patronage in Schwabenitz. Most of the village belonged to the estates of the Olomouc bishopric , which left it to the Pustiměř Benedictine monastery , which was built in 1340 . On September 8, 1348 Švábenice was raised to a town. From 1363, the Pustiměř Benedictine nuns exercised the partronate over the church of Švábenice. During the Hussite Wars , the fortress was destroyed and its remains were later dismantled and built over. The secular part of Švábenice was then added to the Eywanowitz rule . After the abolition of the monastery, the monastic portion fell back to the diocese and in 1590 was attached to the Wischau rule . In 1732 the dean's seat was moved from Pustiměř to Švábenice. The schoolhouse was built in 1838. Until the middle of the 19th century, Švábenice was divided between the dominions Wischau and Eywanowitz.

After the abolition of patrimonial Švábenice / Schwabenitz formed from 1850 a market town in the district administration Wischau . In 1880 1308 people lived in the place. Before 1954, Švábenice lost its status as Městys. Between 1976 and 1990 Dětkovice was incorporated. Since 2000 the community has had a coat of arms and a banner, which represents the family coat of arms of the Lords of Schwabenitz. On April 23, 2008 Švábenice received back the status of a Městys.
