history

Eiwanowitz Castle (1935)

Evanovice was first mentioned in the 13th century in a falsified document from 1183, according to which Trojan, Vrslav and Vojslav, the sons of Vladiken Dluhomil of Evanovice, joined the Order of St. John and donated their goods to them. In the second half of the 13th century Evanovice was elevated to a town and fortifications were built at the end of the century. In 1302 the Oppidum received Brno Law. After the Orlov Castle was built, the Ivanovice Order joined the rule of the castle. The later emperor Sigismund pledged the Johanniter possessions in 1425 to the Moravian governor Hašek von Waldstein . After several changes of pawnbrokers, the town returned to the Johanniter in 1480. Ten years later, the order sold the property to the administrator of the Olomouc bishopric, Johann Filipec . This left Ivanovice together with Orlovice and the desert castle Orlov in 1492 Johann von Kunowitz. In 1503 Heinrich Kropáč von Nevědomí acquired the Orlov rule and had a water fortress built in Ivanovice as the new seat of the rule. Under Jan Bukuvky von Bukuvka, who bought Ivanovice in 1596, the fortress was converted into a castle in 1608. In 1623 Heinrich Graf Schlick acquired the rule from Bernhard Bukuvky. A city fire in 1624 destroyed large parts of Ivanovice. The town hall burned down and the documents were lost. In 1635 Bernhard Bukuvky bought the rule back. After his death in 1643 the Counts Martinic became the owners of Ivanovice. During this time the Swedes besieged the castle without success. Further owners were from 1662 Nikolaus Pazman von Panas, Karl Heinrich von Zierotin , from 1702 Johann Sigismund von Rottal and from 1719 the Přepyský von Rychemberk. In 1765 Johann Wenzel Přepyský was the victim of a robbery at his castle. In the years 1788 and 1791, 81 houses were destroyed in two city fires, and the town hall with the council archives also fell victim to the flames again. In 1795 Franz Josef Marquis von Lusignan bought the estate. His heirs sold Ivanovice to Ferdinand Karl von Österreich-Este .

After the abolition of patrimonial Ivanovice became a market town in the Wischau district from 1848. On January 19, 1909, Emperor Franz Joseph I. elevated Ivanovice to the city. The owners of the castle and the associated large estate, Ludwig III. von Bayern and Marie Therese von Österreich-Este were expropriated after the establishment of Czechoslovakia . During the time of the German occupation , 50 residents of the city became victims of the Nazi tyranny. 44 of them were Jews. In 1980 Chvalkovice na Hané was incorporated.
