Stefan Ulmer (born December 1, 1990 in Dornbirn ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Biel in the National League since 2019 . His brother Martin is also a hockey player.
Career
Stefan Ulmer began his career in the 2005/06 season in Switzerland with the GCK Lions junior team . In the following season he not only made three appearances in the National League B with the first team of the GCK Lions , but also won the championship of the Elite Jr.A with their junior team. In the 2007/08 season he moved to the Spokane Chiefs , who had selected him in the first round of the CHL Import Draft , into the Western Hockey League . Ulmer was the first Austrian to win the Memorial Cup there .
In 2010 he was signed by HC Lugano and played his first National League A game against Zurich on September 10, 2010 . In the following years, Ulmer was always part of the professional squad of the HCL, and by 2016 he was able to increase his number of points per season to around 20 scorer points and reached the playoff final with the club in 2018. If his contract was prematurely renewed in 2016, he did not receive a new contract with HCL after the 2018/19 season. Ulmer played a total of 430 games for the Ticino club and collected 121 points scorer, including 29 goals. A few days later he received a two-year contract with EHC Biel .
International
Ulmer took part for Austria in the U18 World Championships in 2006 and 2007 and the U20 World Championships in 2008 and 2009 in Division I. After helping his team to rise in 2009 as the best defender and top scorer, with the most goals, assists and the best plus / minus balance of the tournament, he played with the team from the Alpine region in the top division of the U20 juniors in 2010 .
He made his debut in the men's national team on December 16, 2010 in a 2-5 win against Norway in Jesenice, Slovenia . He took part in a world championship with the Austrians in Division I for the first time in 2012 and was promoted to the top division straight away. After the relegation of the Alpine nationals, he also played in Division I in 2016 and 2017.In addition, he represented his colors at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and in qualifying for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang .
