William "Will" Petschenig (born February 3, 1995 in Manotick , Ontario ) is a Canadian - Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Biel in the Swiss National League since December 2018 .
Player career
Petschenig first played in the youth field for the Upper Canada Cyclones, he spent the 2011/12 season with the Cornwall Colts in the Central Canada Hockey League and moved to the Ontario Hockey League for the 2012/13 season . There he played for three years for the Oshawa Generals . In the 2014/15 season he won the OHL championship with the team and won the Memorial Cup , the Canadian junior championship. However, he could not take part in the latter title win due to a cross break on the ice. In the 2015/16 season he wore the shirt of Saginaw Spirit , also in the OHL.
In May 2016 he received his first contract as a professional player with Genève-Servette HC from the Swiss National League A (NLA). At the beginning of December 2018, Petschenig switched to EHC Biel in exchange for Mauro Dufner .
Personal
Petschenig's father Dan, who once played in the Canadian Football League , died in 2013. In memory of his father, he launched the “A Heart Like Mine” initiative in Saginaw, which offered activities for children who had also lost a parent to have. In May 2016 he was awarded the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy of the Ontario Hockey League for his commitment . A little later he also received the CHL Humanitarian of the Year of the entire Canadian Hockey League .
