Yannick Rathgeb (born October 24, 1995 in Langenthal ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Biel from the Swiss National League since May 2019 and plays there in the position of defender .

Career

Rathgeb comes from Langenthal in the canton of Bern , his parent club is SC Langenthal . As a teenager he also played for the SCL Tigers , and in 2013 he moved to North America. Rathgeb spent two years with the Plymouth Whalers in the US state of Michigan and played for the team in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). After completing his stay abroad, he was hired by HC Friborg-Gottéron in 2015 . At Friborg he made his debut in the National League A and also played in the Champions Hockey League . In the summer of 2016, he took part in a sighting training camp for the Chicago Blackhawks NHL club .

In early April 2018 he signed a two-year entry contract with the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League . After just one season that he had spent exclusively with the Islanders' farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers from the American Hockey League , he returned to his homeland and signed a three-year contract with EHC Biel in May 2019 .

International

In February 2016 Rathgeb made his debut for the senior national team . In earlier years he had been a junior international and was sometimes also a team captain in the U20.
