The 15th ice hockey world championships of the U18 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2013 in the age group of under-eighteen year olds (U18). Between February 7 and April 28, 2013, a total of 43 national teams took part in the seven tournaments of the top division and divisions I to III.

The world champion was for the third time overall the Canadian team, which could defeat the defending champions from the United States 3-2 in the final. Finland took third place. The German team took eighth place, while the Swiss U18 team finished the tournament in a good sixth place. As in the previous year, Austria reached third place in Group B of Division I and was thus in 19th place in the World Cup tournament.

The U18 World Championship was held in the Russian city ​​of Sochi from April 18 to 28, 2013 and was considered a test competition for the 2014 Winter Olympics . The games were played in the Schaiba ice arena (7,000 seats) and in the Bolshoi ice palace with 12,000 seats.

Ten national teams took part in the tournament, playing in two groups of five teams each. The two groups were composed according to the positions of the national teams at the 2012 World Cup according to the following key:

A new game mode was decided on for the 2013 World Cup: After the group matches in the preliminary round, the four best group players qualified for the quarter-finals. The two fifths of the group games contest the relegation round in the best-of-three mode and determine who was relegated to Division I. The placement games for seventh and fifth place are canceled.

The Group A tournament of Division I was held from April 7th to 13th 2013 in Asiago , Italy . The games took place in the Pala Hodegart, which can hold around 3,000 spectators . A total of 7,105 spectators attended the 15 tournament games.

The tournament winner, with five wins from as many games - including one after extra time - was the Danish U18 team, which was promoted to the top division. On the last day of the match, the Danes secured the tournament victory with a 6-3 win over Norway, which had previously topped the table. In contrast, the Slovenian U18 team lost all five tournament games and was relegated to Group B of Division I without winning a point.

In the game between Denmark and France on April 8, 2013, the Danish goalkeeper George Sørensen managed to score a goal. As part of an IIHF competition, he was only the second goalkeeper after Anton Chudobin to score a goal.
