Morgan Klimchuk (* 2. March 1995 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who since January 2019 when the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Belleville senator , in the American Hockey League on the position of the left winger .
Career
Klimchuk was selected by the Regina Pats in fifth place in the first round of the 2010 Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft . After another season for a junior team from Calgary , he moved to the Pats squad for the 2011/12 WHL season . In his first WHL season, the offensive player scored 18 goals and 18 assists in 67 games. In the 2012 WHL play-offs, the Pats were eliminated in the first round against the Moose Jaw Warriors . In the following season Klimchuk was able to improve his performances from the previous season significantly. The left-shooter completed all 72 games for the Regina Pats and scored a total of 76 points . However, the Pats missed the play-offs this season.
In the 2013 NHL Entry Draft , Morgan Klimchuk was selected in the first round in 28th position by the Calgary Flames . In the following season he was appointed assistant captain by the Pats and kept his points almost constant, although he played 15 games less than in the previous season. After the elimination of his team from the play-offs, he completed his first four appearances for the Abbotsford Heat in the American Hockey League (AHL). In January 2015, Klimchuk was transferred to league competitor Brandon Wheat Kings and finished the season with a total of 80 points from 60 games. He also scored at least 30 goals for the third time in a row.
For the 2015/16 AHL season , Klimchuk moved permanently to the farm team of the Calgary Flames, the Stockton Heat . In February 2018, the attacker finally made his debut for the Flames in the National Hockey League (NHL). In November 2018, however, Calgary gave it to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Andrew Nielsen . There he ran for almost two months for the Toronto Marlies before he was transferred to the Ottawa Senators in January 2019 and Toronto received Gabriel Gagné in return .
International
Morgan Klimchuk represented his home country with the Canadian national team for the first time at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 . In the Canadians' gold medal win, he was used in five games and scored one goal. Klimchuk made his second appearance for the Canadian selection at the U18 Junior World Championship in 2013 . The Canadians finished the tournament in first place after a final victory against the US team . Klimchuk scored three goals and five assists in seven games and was the Canadians' second-best scorer behind Connor McDavid .
