The Moose Jaw Warriors are a Canadian ice hockey team from Moose Jaw , Saskatchewan . The team has played in one of Canada's three highest junior ice hockey leagues, the Western Hockey League (WHL) , since 1984 .

history

In the summer of 1984, the Winnipeg Warriors were relocated from Winnipeg , Manitoba to Moose Jaw , Saskatchewan and renamed the Moose Jaw Warriors. After the team was only moderately successful in its early days, it has only missed the playoffs twice since 1996. The team from Saskatchewan recorded their greatest success when they reached the final of the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the 2005/06 season after the Brandon Wheat Kings , Calgary Hitmen and Medicine Hat Tigers were eliminated. In the final, the Warriors were clearly defeated by the Vancouver Giants with a sweep in the best-of-seven series. Then the team could not build on this success and missed the playoffs in 2007 and 2009 completely.

In summer 2009 the foundation stone was laid for a new, larger and more modern arena. The Mosaic Place was opened in August 2011, and on September 22, 2011, a competitive game was played in the arena for the first time at the start of the 2011/12 season.
