Frazer McLaren (born October 29, 1987 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . Since August 2015 he has played for the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League in the position of the left winger , but is also used for the San Jose Barracuda in the American Hockey League .
Career
McLaren began his career during the 2003/04 season as a 16-year-old with the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Hockey League . There the winger played into the early months of the 2007/08 season before he was given up in November 2007 in a transfer deal to league rivals Moose Jaw Warriors . Until his move, McLaren had been team captain Portlands and was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the seventh round in 203rd position by the San Jose Sharks . In each of his five seasons in the Winter Hawks jersey, the Enforcer had always been able to improve his offensive yield and had matured into a player with much more than just fighting qualities. Due to his size, he was often used in power play in front of the opposing goal. McLaren had already taken part in the rookie training camp of the San Jose Sharks during the summer break , where he had convinced in a storm series with Logan Couture and Devin Setoguchi . In Moose Jaw he finally ended his last WHL season with 33 points from 48 games, including the seven scorer points in Portland, his most successful season to date.
After the Warriors were eliminated from the playoffs of the Western Hockey League, the San Jose Sharks signed the striker in early April 2008 and used him for the remainder of the 2007/08 season in their farm team , the Worcester Sharks from the American Hockey League . In four games he managed one assist. The Canadian also spent the following season in Worcester. After initial adjustment difficulties in the first three quarters of the season, in which he could not get beyond the role of a striker of the fourth row, his performance improved towards the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. As a result, he played a key role in reaching the playoffs and advancing into the second round. In the summer training camp of the San Jose Sharks before the 2009/10 game year , he finally earned a place in the expanded NHL squad, but was initially sent to the AHL squad shortly before the start of the season. For the second game of the season he found himself back in the NHL squad and finally made his debut. He scored his first NHL goal on November 29, 2009 in the game against the Vancouver Canucks .
At the end of January 2013, the McLaren on the waiver list was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs , where it was mainly used by the Toronto Marlies farm team . In total, the Canadian only played 62 games for Leafs and Marlies in two seasons before his expiring contract was not extended and he returned to the San Jose Sharks in August 2015.
