The 1.85 m tall defender began his career with various teams in the Canadian Junior League WHL before he was selected in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft as 104th in the fourth round by the Los Angeles Kings . Because the Kings did not submit a contract to Aaron Rome within two years of the draft year, they lost the negotiating rights of the player. Then Rome signed on June 7, 2004 as a free agent a contract with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , which first used him with the farm teams Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Towards the end of the 2006/07 season , the defender was appointed for the first time in the squad of the now renamed Anaheim Ducks NHL franchise . Although he won the Stanley Cup , the North American ice hockey championship, with the Ducks in the same season , since he did not play a game in the final series and only played one game in the regular season, his name was not engraved on the cup according to the rules of the league. Either 41 games in the season or one game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs are required for engraving your own name.

On November 15, 2007 Aaron Rome was transferred together with Clay Wilson in exchange for Geoff Platt to the Columbus Blue Jackets , of which he was mostly used in the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. On July 1, 2009 Rome signed as a free agent a contract with the Vancouver Canucks , with which the defender reached the final series of the Stanley Cup in the 2010/11 season .

After two years with the Dallas Stars , he was fired in June 2014 in order not to exceed the salary cap . From then on, he was considered an unrestricted free agent until he was hired on probation by the Norfolk Admirals from the AHL in November 2014 (professional tryout contract) . There he was released after two games, which meant the end of his playing career.

Since the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Rome has been the assistant coach of the Brandon Wheat Kings from the WHL.
