Clay Wilson (born April 5, 1983 in Sturgeon Lake , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with Severstal Cherepovets in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
Clay Wilson began his career as a hockey player at Michigan Tech , which he attended from 2001 to 2005, while he was also active for their ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . Towards the end of the 2004/05 season , the defender made his professional ice hockey debut when he played for the Muskegon Fury in the United Hockey League . With the Fury he immediately won the Colonial Cup in the playoffs . The 2005/06 season he started again with the Muskegon Fury in the UHL, but ended this with the Grand Rapids Griffins from the American Hockey League .
On July 11, 2006 Wilson signed a contract as a free agent with the Anaheim Ducks from the National Hockey League , but came in the 2006/07 season exclusively for their AHL farm team Portland Pirates for use. On November 15, 2007 he was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets together with Aaron Rome in exchange for Geoff Platt within the NHL . For the Blue Jackets he made his NHL debut in the 2007/08 season , but continued to play predominantly in the AHL for their farm team Syracuse Crunch . In January 2009 he was given to the Atlanta Thrashers , for which he was used in two more NHL games by the end of the 2008/09 season . The rest of the time he spent there on the AHL farm team with the Chicago Wolves . From 2009 to 2011 the left shooter was a regular with the Rochester Americans in the AHL, for whose cooperation partner Florida Panthers he occasionally played in the NHL. In the 2011/12 season he received five NHL games with the Calgary Flames . There he also spent most of the season in the AHL farm team, with the Abbotsford Heat .
For the 2012/13 season , the American was signed by HK Donbass Donetsk from the Continental Hockey League and won the IIHF Continental Cup with this in 2013 . After the withdrawal of HK Donbass from the KHL in June 2014, Wilson moved to the newly founded KHL club HK Sochi .
International
For the USA , Wilson took part in the 2011 World Cup. During the tournament he prepared two goals in seven games.
