The HC Donbass ( Ukrainian ХК Донбас Донецьк , Russian ХК Донбасс Донецк ) is a 2001 established Ukrainian hockey club from Donetsk . The professional team played in the Continental Hockey League from 2012 to 2014 and since then in the Ukrainian Ice Hockey League . The club plays its home games in the Druzhba Sports Palace . The club colors are black, white and red. Borys Kolesnikow has been the sole owner of the club since 2010 .
history
The club was founded in 2001. In the 2001/02 season, HK Donbass took part in Division B of the East European Hockey League , in which it finished third of eight places. Later the team was accepted into the Wyschtscha Liha . The greatest success in the club's history was winning the Ukrainian championship title in the 2010/11 season .
For the 2011/12 season , HK Donbass Donetsk was included as one of three teams as an expansion team in the second Russian division, the Vysschaya Hockey League , which had been newly founded a year earlier . From 2011, the club planned to participate in the Continental Hockey League in the medium to long term . The club's second team played in the top Ukrainian league, the Professional Hockey League , between 2011 and 2013 .
At European level, the HK Donbass participated in the 2011/12 season at the IIHF Continental Cup in part, in the third round of the team started and reached the final tournament. HK Donbass was accepted into the KHL for the 2012/13 season.
Due to the war in Ukraine since 2014 , the club took a break from playing for security reasons in the 2014/15 season . The players' contracts were frozen and they could play at another club until then. In the 2015/16 season, however, the club took part in the game operation in the Ukrainian hockey league. You could win the championship in the first year. According to the website of the Association of HC Donbass played in since the season 2015/16 at the Ice Stadium "Altayr" Druzhkivka in the north of Donetsk Oblast.
