The 2016/17 season was the 24th season of the Ukrainian Ice Hockey League , the highest Ukrainian ice hockey league . Champion became for the fifth time in the club history of HK Donbass Donetsk . Five of the eight teams from the previous year took part again. HK Krywbass was the sixth team . The HK Kryschynka Kompanjon Kiev , the HK Rapid Kiev and HK Junist Kharkiv renounced to participate again.

The six teams played a total of 40 games in the main round, so they played eight times against every other club. The first four teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after extra time, one point for a loss after extra time and zero points for a loss after regular time.
