The Extraliga 2016/17 was the 24th regular staging of the highest Czech ice hockey league. Czech champions were for the first time in the club's history (after 12 championship titles in Czechoslovakia ) HC Kometa Brno , who defeated the Bílí Tygři Liberec 4-0 in the playoff final.

The Pohár TG Masaryka

In 52 games, all teams play against each other four times, each team has 26 home and 26 away games throughout the season. The teams in places 1 to 6 qualify directly for the play-offs, which are played in best-of-seven mode. The winner of the play-offs will receive the Pohár TG Masaryka as the Czech champions .

The teams in places 7 to 10 play off the other two playoff places in the best of five . The remaining four teams play a relegation round (play-out), the last two of which participate in the league relegation against the two semi-final winners of the first division .

In the relegation round of the 2015/16 season between the 1st division and the extraliga, the two participants in the extraliga prevailed, so that the field of participants corresponded to that of the previous season.
