Ondřej Němec (born April 18, 1984 in Třebíč , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Kometa Brno from the Czech extra league since 2016 .

Career

Ondřej Němec began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the SK Horácká Slavia Třebíč . He left this in 1999 at the age of 15 and moved to the youth department of Vsetínská hokejová , for whose professional team he made his debut in the extra league in the 2001/02 season . In his rookie year , the defender scored five goals in 44 games and made three assists. As in the following four years, he also played for his home club Vsetínská hokejová in the second-rate first division .

In the NHL Entry Draft 2002 Němec was selected in the second round as a total of 35th player from the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he never played. Only the 2003/04 season he finished with their farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League . For the 2005/06 season , the right-handed player moved to HC Energie Karlovy Vary , with whom he became Czech champions for the first time in the 2008/09 season . He and his team were able to return the favor at HC Slavia Prague , to which he was defeated in the playoff final with HC Energie last year.

2010 Němec moved to Severstal Tscherepowez in the Continental Hockey League and completed a total of 108 KHL games for the team in the following two years, in which he scored 33 points scorer. In May 2012 he returned to the Czech Republic and was signed by HC Lev Prague for two years. In the 2013/14 season he reached the KL play-off final for the Gagarin Cup with Lev Prague , in which Lev was defeated 3: 4 by HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk . Němec contributed a total of 29 points scorer in 73 games this season to this success. In addition, with 10 scorer points, he was one of the top defenders of the play-offs.

After the club's withdrawal before the 2014/15 season, Němec moved internally to Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast . Due to Atlant's financial problems, Němec was handed over to the HK CSKA Moscow together with Andreas Engqvist in December 2014 for financial compensation . He played 28 KHL games for CSKA before returning to Severstal Tscherepowez at the end of May 2015.

After the 2015/16 season, Němec decided to return to the Czech Republic to be closer to his family. He signed a contract for several years with HC Kometa Brno and won the Czech championship with it in 2017.

International

For the Czech Republic , Němec took part in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2002 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2004 and won the bronze medal at the U18 World Championship in 2002.

He had his first appearances in the men's national team as part of the Euro Hockey Tour 2008/09 and was then nominated for the 2009 World Cup . At the World Championships the following year he won the gold medal with the Czech national team and the bronze medal in 2011 and 2012 .
