In 52 games, all teams play against each other four times, each team has 26 home and 26 away games throughout the season. The teams in places 1–8 qualify directly for the play-offs, which will be played in the best-of-seven mode . In the 2005/06 season there is a league relegation for promotion to the extra league. The champions of the 1st league qualify for this and have to contest a best-of-seven series against the bottom of the table in the Extraliga.
The HC Sparta Prague prevailed against the Prague rivals HC Slavia with 4-2 and won the fourth title in the club's history. The outstanding player in the ranks of Sparta was goalkeeper
Petr Bříza , who was able to celebrate a shutout in his last game as a professional. In addition, he showed consistently good performance throughout the play-offs and achieved a goal average of 1.56, a catch rate of 95.19% and a total of three shutouts. Another pillar of the champions was Jaroslav Hlinka , who scored ten goals and six assists in 17 playoff games.
