The 2013/14 season was the 21st regular staging of the highest Czech ice hockey league, the Tipsport Extraliga . Czech champions became PSG Zlín , who defeated HC Kometa Brno in the playoff final and thus won the club's second championship after 2004. In the relegation round between the first division and the extra division, the two participants from the second division - HC Olomouc and BK Mladá Boleslav - prevailed and replaced the Rytíři Kladno and Piráti Chomutov in the following season .

Before the start of the season, HC České Budějovice rose due to a license sale in the first division and was replaced by Mountfield HK .

mode

In 52 games, all teams play against each other four times, each team has 26 home and 26 away games throughout the season. The teams in places 1 to 6 qualify directly for the play-offs, which are played in the best-of-seven mode. The teams in places 7 to 10 play off the other two playoff places in the best of five . The remaining four teams play a relegation round (play-out), the last two of which take part in the league relegation against the two semi-final winners of the first division .

Before the start of the season

Before the start of the season, the new championship trophy of the Extraliga was presented, the Pohár TG Masaryka . The cup is named after the first President of Czechoslovakia - Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk - who was a great promoter of ice hockey. There were two reasons for the introduction of the new cup: On the one hand, the previous cup was damaged in both 2005 and 2010 by members of the championship teams of HC Pardubice , whereby the cup had to be completely replaced in 2005 and repaired in 2010. Second, the previous cup was called "pohár mistrů" (German champions cup). Therefore, the operating company of the Extraliga, the APK, decided to create a new trophy with a prestigious name, also for marketing reasons.

Attendees

In the course of the 2012/13 season , the Extraliga agreed on a sponsorship contract with the Radegast brewery, which from 2013 received exclusive serving permits in all stadiums of the league. This contract collided with the current contract between the city of Budweis and the Budweiser Budvar Brewery regarding the naming and serving rights of the Budvar Aréna , which provides for high penalties for serving a different beer brand than Budweiser in the arena. After no agreement could be reached between the conflicting parties, the Extraliga license (including the current sponsorship, player and employee contracts) of HC České Budějovice was sold to a newly founded operating company, Mountfield HK as , from Hradec Králové . HC České Budějovice then took over the starting position of HC Hradec Králové in the first division , while the latter has been participating in the extra division as Mountfield HK since 2013 .
