Libor Pivko (born March 29, 1980 in Nový Jičín , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech extra league since May 2013 .

Career

Libor Pivko began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of HC Slezan Opava , for whose professional team he made his debut in the extra league in the 1998/99 season . He gave one assist in five games. The winger spent the following two seasons at his league rivals HC Havířov , where he was able to fight for a regular place. Because of his constant performance, he was selected in the third round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft as the 89th player of the Nashville Predators . Initially, however, he stayed in the extra league , in which he played for HC Zlín from 2001 to 2003 .

From 2003 to 2006 Pivko was in the American Hockey League for the Milwaukee Admirals , the farm team of the Nashville Predators, on the ice and won the Calder Cup with his team in the 2003/04 season . The Czech came to his only appearance in the National Hockey League during the 2003/04 season . In the summer of 2006 the former U20 junior world champion returned to his homeland, where he received a contract with HC Pardubice , for which he played for the following four years. With Pardubice he was first runner- up in 2007 , before he won the Czech championship with his team in the 2009/10 season . He played a major role in this success with a plus / minus balance of +21, which was the best value of all Extraliga players in the main round.

For the 2010/11 season Pivko was signed by the newly founded Slovak club HC Lev Poprad from the Continental Hockey League . Since this did not take up the game, Pivko returned to Pardubice. In December 2010 he left Pardubice again when he was signed by Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk to replace Peter Mikuš . At the end of the season he moved within the KHL to HK Dinamo Minsk and completed over 90 KHL games for the club in the following two years. He was then committed in May 2013 by HC Kometa Brno .

International

For the Czech Republic , Pivko took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2000 , where he and his team became world champions.
