The Milwaukee Admirals are an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League . They play in Milwaukee , Wisconsin in the UW – Milwaukee Panther Arena (9,652 seats). They are the farm team of the Nashville Predators ( NHL ).

history

The Milwaukee Admirals were founded in 1970 and initially played for three years as an amateur. It was not until the 1973/74 season that they joined the newly formed United States Hockey League . In their first season they were initially very unsuccessful, won only 11 of 48 games and ended the season as the worst team in their division. But two years later she won the USHL championship.

In 1977 the Admirals joined the International Hockey League , as the USHL was a pure amateur league. Only once in their 24-year membership of the IHL did the Admirals make it into the final of the Turner Cup , but they were defeated by Toledo in six games in 1982/83. After the IHL was dissolved in 2001, the Admirals, like five other IHL teams, joined the American Hockey League . In 2004 they won the Calder Cup for the first time when they defeated the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the final. In 2005/06 they won their division in the AHL for the second time and again reached the Calder Cup final. There they were subject to the Hershey Bears in six games .

Since 2005, the Admirals have belonged to a group of investors including Harris J. Turer and Ben Sheets , the pitcher of the Milwaukee Brewers .
