The Binghamton Devils are an American ice hockey franchise based in Binghamton , New York , which has played in the American Hockey League (AHL) since the 2017/18 season . It serves as the farm team for the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League and plays its home games at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena .

history

Before the 2016/17 season, it was announced that the Binghamton Senators , the Ottawa Senators ' farm team , would be moving to Belleville for the 2017/18 season and will henceforth operate as Belleville Senators . In this context, the Binghamton Senators announced that they would see to it that the resulting void would be filled by another team; partly because the lease for the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton was still valid for three years at that time. At the end of January 2017, the league then agreed to the move of the Albany Devils , who - still as the New Jersey Devils' farm team - are to take part in the AHL's game operations as Binghamton Devils for the 2017/18 season. Another reason for the Albany Devils' move was their average attendance, which was the lowest in the entire AHL at 2,888 fans per game.

The first head coach was Rick Kowalsky , who has been in charge of the franchise since 2010. The current trainer has been Mark Dennehy since August 2018 .
