The Baltimore Clippers were an American ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League based in Baltimore , Maryland . The venue for the Clippers was the Baltimore Civic Center .

history

The Baltimore Clippers were founded in 1962 as a team in the American Hockey League . In the 14 years in which they played in the AHL, they won the title of their division three times (1971, 1972 and 1974), as well as the title of best AHL team of the regular season (1971). After a World Hockey Association team was first settled in Baltimore in January 1975 with the Baltimore Blades as the successor to the Michigan Stags , the Clippers withdrew from the AHL's game operations during the 1974/75 season. This was mainly due to a lack of audience interest. After the dissolution of the Blades, which took place in the summer of 1975, the Clippers returned to the AHL for another year before the team was incorporated into the Southern Hockey League . During the first season of the Clippers in the new league, this was dissolved and the Clippers team was then dissolved. From 1979 to 1981, the team entered the Eastern Hockey League again . When this stopped the game operations, the Clippers were finally dissolved.

In the years after the Clippers and Blades broke up, other franchises played in Baltimore. The Baltimore Skipjacks played their games first in the 1981/82 season in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League , then from 1982 to 1993 in the American Hockey League . With the Baltimore Bandits , another AHL team was represented in Baltimore from 1995 to 1997.
