The Salem Raiders were an American ice hockey franchise of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League based in Salem , Virginia .

history

The franchise began playing in the Eastern Hockey League for the 1980/81 season . When the league then stopped playing, the Salem Raiders switched to their successor, the Atlantic Coast Hockey League , in which they were one of seven founding members. In the first season of the ACHL, the 1981/82 season , the Raiders took first place after the regular season, but then could not prevail in the playoffs. For the following season , the team changed their name to their home state in Virginia Raiders. After a total of three years, the franchise stopped playing at the end of the season.
