The Grand Rapids Rockets were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Grand Rapids , Michigan . The Rockets' venue was the Stadium Arena .

history

The Grand Rapids Rockets were founded in 1949 as a franchise of the Eastern Amateur Hockey League . After only one year, the team switched to the fully professional International Hockey League , in which they were in the final of the Turner Cup three times in a row from 1950 to 1953 , but were subject to the opponent. First, the Rockets failed twice at the Toledo Mercurys before they had to admit defeat to the Cincinnati Mohawks in the 1952/53 season . In the following years, the franchise could not build on these successes and was relocated to Huntington , West Virginia in 1956 , where it then took part in the IHL gaming operations under the name Huntington Hornets .
