The Windsor Gotfredsons were a Canadian ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Windsor , Ontario . The venue for the Gotfredsons and their successor clubs was the Windsor Arena .

history

The Windsor Gotfredsons were founded in 1945 and were one of the founding members of the International Hockey League. The club only existed for one year and was called Windsor Staffords from 1946. The Staffords took first place in the IHL in their first season. In the following season, the team finished sixth. The Staffords lost 21 games and won only eight. In the summer of 1948, just two years after the first name change, the club changed its name again and played from then on as Windsor Ryan Cretes in the IHL. The Ryan Cretes existed until 1950 before they disbanded.
