The Grand Rapids Owls were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Grand Rapids , Michigan .
history
Following the 1976/77 season, the Columbus Owls from the International Hockey League were sold by their owners, whereupon the franchise was initially relocated to Dayton , Ohio , at the beginning of the 1977/78 season Relocated December 1977 to Grand Rapids , Michigan , where it was subsequently renamed Grand Rapids Owls. In their first two years, the team served as the farm team for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League . Although the team ended the season in ninth and last or penultimate place in 1978 and 1980, they reached the final of the Turner Cup in the 1978/79 season as the winner of the South Division , in which they won the Kalamazoo Wings in the best-of-seven series were just beaten 3: 4 wins. Following the 1979/80 season, the franchise was triggered.
