Career

Crowder spent his junior years between 1976 and 1979 with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (OMJHL). The Petes were among the best junior teams in Canada at the time. With the team, the striker won the J. Ross Robertson Cup , the championship trophy of the OMJHL in 1978 and 1979 , and also played in the prestigious Memorial Cup in both years . Peterborough also won this in 1979 . Crowder was one of the team's reliable scorers during his three years and scored 168 times in 192 missions.

Immediately after winning the Memorial Cup, the Canadian was hired as a free agent by the Birmingham Bulls from the World Hockey Association , which was thus favored by its own league rules - namely, to be able to freely sign undrafted junior players. Crowder completed five games for the Bulls by the end of the 1978/79 season and formed the so-called "Baby Bulls" with players like Mike Gartner , Craig Hartsburg , Rick Vaive and Rob Ramage . Finally he was selected in the summer of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft in the third round in 57th place by the Boston Bruins from the National Hockey League .

Before the start of the 1979/80 season, the offensive player did not make the leap into the NHL, so he first came to the Binghamton Dusters and Grand Rapids Owls in the minor leagues American Hockey League and International Hockey League . The following year he began with the Springfield Indians in the AHL, before he managed to jump into the NHL squad during the season after collecting a total of 30 points in the first 26 games of the season. Ultimately, Crowder completed 47 games in his NHL rookie season from December 1980. At the side of Steve Kasper and Wayne Cashman he got 25 scorer points . At the beginning of the 1981/82 season he was finally an unrestricted regular player for the Bruins for the following eight years. He played his best year in the 1985/86 season with 84 points. In June 1989, Crowder finally left the Bruins after nine years and completed his last professional year with the Los Angeles Kings , who had signed him as a free agent .
