The 1982/83 NHL season was the 66th season in the National Hockey League . 21 teams played 80 games each. The Stanley Cup won the New York Islanders after a 4-0 win in the final series against the Edmonton Oilers for the fourth time in a row. Wayne Gretzky led the scoring statistics. There were financial problems in St. Louis. The team was sold to Saskatoon , Saskatchewan on the Canadian Prairies, but the owners of the other teams intervened. The NHL took over the team and sold it to Harry Ornest for $ 3 million. The Blues did not participate in the draft this season. The career of the young Bruins striker Normand Leville ended tragically in Vancouver . During the first third break he had to be taken to the hospital, where a cerebral hemorrhage was found. The player who was drafted in the first round was paralyzed on one side. His career was over after only 75 games.
